Beauty in stillness

BI love traveling and seeing the world. But it isn’t easy and it isn’t always pleasant or contemplative as it is meant to be if you really want to sink in to the experience. Between the unhurried, slow almost vagabond and wanton wanderings of Mary Oliver and the jet setting high fly traveling to exotic wonders of the world I’d choose the stillness any day. It would nourish my soul a hundred fold. But what is one to do when it is par for the course, part of your job? You make the most of it. You enjoy it and cherish the best parts of it. I’m an introvert at heart. I prefer my travel to be slow, still to make it enjoyable. A quick jaunt to someplace can be refreshing at times but I would rather go and immerse myself in its surroundings for weeks and months. I want the everyday, the trivial, the plain and boring, unexciting parts. I want to be a part of its dull existence, away from the attractions and the glitz and glamor. That is travel to me, the rest is just the glitter that is not gold. 

We often forget we have what we need in our vicinity. Why aren’t we ever exploring right around us. What would we do in Rome if we lived there for a month? Why don’t we do that where we live?
